Mets Beat Cardinals 3-0 Behind Alonso and Soto

The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0 at Citi Field this afternoon for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 14-7.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but then came alive in the bottom of the third.

2B Luisangel Acuna led off with a single and three batters later, RF Juan Soto drove in Acuna with a RBI single.

1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double.

The offense did not do much for the next four innings until the bottom of the eighth after Alonso hit a mammoth solo home to the second deck in left field.

RHP Kodai Senga had another terrific start with 5.2 scoreless innings. 

Senga gave up three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to an incredible 0.79 to start the season which is second in Major League Baseball.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

LHP A.J. Minter came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth to pick up his fifth save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, April 20 at home against the Cardinals at 1:40 p.m.
