The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 tonight at Citi Field to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 12-7.

The Met offense did all of the scoring it needed in the bottom of the second.

3B Mark Vientos led off with his first homer of the season to the opposite field and then two batters later, DH Starling Marte doubled.

Two batters later, 2B Brett Baty drove in Marte with a RBI single and then CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a single.

SS Francisco Lindor then drove in Baty with a RBI single and then Lindor was able to get into a rundown long enough which allowed Taylor to score all the way from first base.

RHP Griffin Canning had the best start of his Met career allowing one run on three hits and two walks in six innings.

Canning had eight strikeouts.

Of his eight strikeouts, five came off the fastball and the rest of his nine outs came from ground balls.

Canning had command of his fastball, change-up and slider.

He picked up his second win and lowered his ERA to 3.43.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

LHP A.J. Minter followed and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and worked around a lead-off walk as well as getting two strikeouts to pick up his fourth save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, April 18 at the Cardinals at 7:10 p.m.
