Mets Beat Athletics 8-0 To Take Series After Senga Dominates

The New York Mets beat the Athletics 8-0 this afternoon at Sutter Health Park to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 10-5.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings, but then broke through in the top of the sixth.

1B Pete Alonso led off with a walk and then three batters later, catcher Luis Torrens came through with a RBI single.

In the top of the seventh, CF Tyrone Taylor led off with a hit by pitch and then 2B Luisnangel Acuna bunted into a fielder's choice.

SS Francisco Lindor followed by driving in Acuna with a RBI double.

RF Juan Soto was then intentionally walked and two batters LF Brandon Nimmo walked to load the bases.

3B Mark Vientos followed by driving in a run on a based loaded walk.

In the top of the eighth, Taylor tripled with one out and then scored on a balk.

In the top of the ninth, Nimmo led off by reaching on an infield single and then Vientos followed with a RBI double.

Torrens followed by coming through once again with a RBI ground rule double.

3B Brett Baty then broke the game open with a RBI triple and then scored on a throwing error by SS Jacob Wilson.

RHP Kodai Senga had an outstanding start with seven scoreless innings.

Senga gave up four hits and two walks with four strikeouts and had pinpoint command of his ghostfork splitter.

He is the first Met pitcher to go into the seventh inning.

He picked up his second win and lowered his ERA to 1.06.

LHP A.J. Minter followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Max Kranick closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, April 14 at the Minnesota Twins at 7:40 p.m.
