Mets Beat Phillies 5-1 With Strong Pitching and Timely Hitting

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-1 tonight at Citi Field for their sixth consecutive win to improve their record to 17-7.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and three batters later, 3B Mark Vientos drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the second, 2B Luisangel Acuna walked with one out and then CF Jose Azobar followd with a single.

Lindor came up next and delivered once again with a RBI single.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next four innings and then came alive again in the bottom of the seventh.

Lindor reached on an infield single with one out and then took second on a throwing error.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Lindor with a RBI double.

Vientos then walked and pinch hitter Jesse Winker followed with a walk to load the bases.

Catcher Luis Torrens came up next and broke the game open with a two-run single,

RHP Griffin Canning had another strong start working his way out of several jams.

Canning allowed one run on seven hits in five innings with one walk and five strikeouts.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 3.12.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a scoreless top of the sixth.

LHP A.J. Minter came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Jose Butto closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, April 23 at home against the Phillies at 1:10 p.m.
