Mets Beat Marlins 10-5 For Sixth Straight Win After Offense Breaks Out

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 10-5 this afternoon at Citi Field for their sixth consecutive win and improved their record to 8-3.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a homer.

After a scoreless bottom of the second, RF Juan Soto singled with two outs in the bottom of the third and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double.

The offense was scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, but then came alive again in the bottom of the fifth.

Catcher Hayden Senger led off with a single and then Lindor reached on a fielder's choice and then Senger reached second after 1B Matt Mervis made a throwing error to second.

Two batters later, Alonso walked and then LF Brandon Nimmo came through with a two-run double.

After 3B Mark Vientos grounded out, DH Starling Marte came through with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the sixth, 2B Brett Baty led off with an infield single and then Senger reached on a bunt single.

Two batters later, Soto was intentionally walked to load the bases and then Alonso came up and broke the game open with a bases clearing double.

In the bottom of the seventh, 2B Luisangel Acuna led off with a single and then stole second.

Senger then grounded out to first which allowed Acuna to advance to third and Lindor followed with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Clay Holmes allowed four runs on five hits and three walks in 5.1 innings.

Holmes had a career-high 10 strikeouts and the most by any Mets pitcher so far to season and picked up his first win of the season.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and allowed a run in 1.0 innings.

LHP A.J. Minter followed and got the last two outs in the top of the seventh.

LHP Danny Young threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Reed Garrett closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, April 9 at home against the Marlins at 1:10 p.m.
