Mets Lose To Rockies 8-5 After Quintana and Bullpen allow Six Homers

The New York Mets lost to the Colorado Rockies 8-5 this afternoon to snap their four-game winning streak and end their first half of the season with a record of 49-46.

LHP Jose Quintana got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off walk to DH Charlie Blackmon and then gave up a two-run homer to SS Ezqueil Tovar.

Quintana had scoreless innings in the top of the second, third and fourth innings and then was hurt by the long ball again in the top of the fifth after he gave up a solo homer to 1B Michael Toglia.

Quintana's struggles continued in the top of the sixth after he gave up a solo homer to CF Brenton Doyle.

Quintana gave up another solo homer to Toglia in the top of the sixth and was taken out with two outs in the inning.

His final line was 5.2 innings, six hits, five runs, one walk and eight strikeouts.

RHP Phil Maton came in next and got the last out in the inning.

RHP Adrian Houser followed in the top of the seventh and gave up a two-run homer to Tovar.

Houser stayed in for the top of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to Togia.

LHP Danny Young came on in the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after catcher Francisco Lindor led off by reaching on an infield single and then 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer.

Two batters later, 3B Jose Iglesias walked and then RF Tyrone Taylor singled and 2B Jeff McNeil walked to load the bases.

Two batters later, Lindor walked to bring in another run.

In the bottom of the eighth, Iglesias led off with a single and then Taylor walked.

McNeil followed with a RBI double and two batters later Lindor walked.

LF Brandon Nimmo then grounded into a fielder's choice and catcher Francisco Alvarez lined out to center to end the inning.

The Met offense struggled all game with men on base going 1-13 with runners in scoring position leaving 12 runners on base.

The Mets are next off for the next four games for the All Star Break and return back to action on Friday, July 19 at the Miami Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
