Mets Lose To Nationals 7-5 After Bullpen Blows Another Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals 7-5 tonight at Nationals and snapped their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 42-42.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after RF Tyrone Taylor hit a solo homer.

In the top of the fourth, D.H. J.D. Martinez doubled with one out and two batters later, 3B Mark Vientos hit a two-run homer.

In the top of the fifth, LF Ben Gamel doubled with two outs and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a two-run homer.

RHP Christian Scott started out well with four scoreless innings and then in the bottom of the fifth,  gave up a RBI single to 2B Ildemaro Vargas.

In the bottom of the sixth, Scott gave up one-out singles to LF James Wood and DH Jesse Winter and two batters later, a three-run homer to 2B Luis Garcia Jr and was then taken out with two outs in the inning.

Scott's final line was 5.2 innings, six hits, four runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and got the last out in the bottom of the sixth.

Ottavino came back out for the bottom of the seventh and retired the first two hitters he faced and was then pulled.

LHP Jake Diekman came on and got into immediate trouble walking SS C.J. Abrams and then gave up a game-tying RBI double to RF Lane Thomas and a RBI single to Wood.

RHP Ty Adcock came in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to Garcia, his second homer of the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow morning, Thursday, July 4 at the Nationals at 11:05 a.m.
