Mets Come Back to Beat Pirates 3-2 In Ninth inning Rally

The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 this afternoon at PNC Park for their second consecutive win and improved their record back to .500 at 44-44.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first seven innings and then broke through in the top of the eighth.

2B Jose Iglesias singled with one out and was then thrown out caught stealing.

SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk and then CF Brandon Nimmo delivered a RBI double.

In the top of the ninth, catcher Francisco Alvarez drew a lead-off walk against closer LHP Aroldis Chapman and CF Harrison Bader followed with a single.

3B Mark Vientos and pinch-hitter Luis Torrens struck out, but then Iglesias drew a walk to load the bases.

Lindor came up next and delivered a two-run double.

LHP Sean Manaea had another outstanding start with six scoreless innings.

He allowed two hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

Manaea lowered his ERA to 3.43.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Dedniel Nunez came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up singles to two out of the first three batters he faced before striking out LF Bryan Reynolds for the second out and was then taken out.

RHP Edwin Diaz then followed and walked pinch-hitter Joshua Palacios and then gave up a two-run single to 2B Nick Gonzales.

Diaz came back out in the bottom inning and had a 1-2-3 inning and picked up his third win and blowing his fifth save in the bottom of the eighth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Monday, July 8 at the Pirates at 12:35 p.m.
