The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-2 this afternoon at PNC Park to split their four-game series and dropped their record to under .500 at 44-45.

RHP Christian Scott cruised through the first three innings and then ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth.

Scott gave up a lead-off walk to DH Andrew McCutchen and two batters later, a two-run homer to SS Oneil Cruz.

Scott was able to rebound with a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth and then retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the sixth and was taken out with 77 pitches.

His final line was 5.2 innings, one hit, two runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

RHP Eric Orze came in next in his MLB debut and got into immediate trouble walking LF Bryan Reynolds and then gave up a single to Cruz.

Orze then gave up infield single to 1B Rowdy Tellez which allowed the go-ahead run to score and was then taken out.

RHP Adrian Houser followed and gave up a two-run double to 2B Nick Gonzalez and then RF Jeff McNeil made an error on the field which allowed Gonzalez to reach third.

Houser then threw a wild pitch which allowed Gonzalez to score and later in the inning gave up a solo homer to RF Joshua Pallacios.

Houser had a scoreless bottom of the seventh and gave up a RBI ground-out to Pallacios in the bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a two-run homer by LF Brandon Nimmo in the top of the sixth.

They went 1-4 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 9 back at home against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
