The New York Mets acquired reliever RHP Phil Maton from the Tampa Bay Rays today.

LHP Joey Lucchesi was designated for assignment as corresponding roster.

The Mets are taking on the remainder of his $6.25 million contract for this year.

Maton has a 4.58 ERA for the Rays in 40 appearances this season.

He has 30 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings.

Maton has pitched much better lately with a 0.75 in his last 12 appearances.

He helps fill a much needed void in the bullpen due to all of the struggles in the pen with the injuries to LHP Brooks Raley and RHP Sean Reid-Foley as well as the problems with Edwin Diaz, Adam Ottavino Jake Diekman and Reed Garrett among the relievers on the roster.

Hopefully Maton will bring some stability late in games to a bullpen that needs a boost after all of the problems all season long.
