LHP Sean Manaea had a scoreless bottom of the first, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the second.
Manaea gave up a RBI single to SS Xavier Edwards and a sacrifice fly to SS Xavier Edwards.
Manaea had more troubles in the bottom of the third after he gave up a RBI double to 1B Jake Burger and later in the inning a RBI single to 1B Josh Bell.
Manaea had a scoreless bottom of the fourth and then gave up a solo homer to Burger in the bottom of the fifth and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was five innings, eight hits, five runs, one walk and one strikeout.
RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.
RHP Phil Maton followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
RHP Dedniel Nunez came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a RBI single to catcher Nick Fortes,
LHP Danny Young had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the eighth.
The Met offense was held scoreless for the four innings until the top of the fifth after RF Jeff McNeil hit a solo homer.
Later in the inning, DH J.D. Martinez hit a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the sixth, McNeil came through once again with a two-run homer.
The Met offense was unable to score any more runs after that and wasted a golden scoring opportunity in the top of the eighth with runners on second and third and one out.
The offense struggled all night with runners on base going 1-7 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, July 20 at the Miami Marlins at 4:10 p.m.
