Mets Beat The Nationals 7-2 in 10 Innings Behind Another Late Inning Rally

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 7-2 in 10 innings tonight at Nationals Park for their second consecutive win and improved their record back to over .500 at 42-41.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings until the top of the sixth after SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer.

In the top of the eighth, Lindor doubled with one out and then LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI double to tie the game.

In the top of the tenth, 2B Jose Iglesias led off with a RBI double to score RF Tyrone Taylor who started out at second as the automatic runner.

Three batters later, Nimmo drove in his second run of the game with another RBI double and then 3B Mark Vientos followed with a RBI single.

1B Pete Alonso came up next and broke the game open with a two-run homer.

LHP Sean Manaea had a solid outing allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings.

He gave up two walks with five strikeouts.

Manaea lowered his ERA to 3.67.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth.

Butto allowed one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

He picked up his second win of the season.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed and closed it out in the tenth with a 1-2-3 inning which included a strikeout.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, July 3 at the Nationals at 6:45 p.m.
