Mets Lose to Marlins 4-2 After Scott Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 4-2 this afternoon at LoanDepot Park and dropped their record to 50-48.

RHP Christian Scott started out well with three scoreless innings, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the fourth.

Scott gave up a lead-off infield hit to 2B Xavier Edwards and then a single to the following hitter to SS Vidal Brujan.

Two batters later, Scott gave up a three-run homer to DH Jazz Chisholm Jr and was taken out after the inning.

Scott's final line was 4.0 innings, seven hits, three runs, two walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Adrian Houser came in next and threw scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth, but then gave up a solo homer to 1B Jake Burger in the bottom of the seventh and was taken out with two outs in the inning.

LHP Jake Dieman followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso and 3B Mark Vientos singled with one out and then catcher Luis Torrens drove in Alonso with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the fifth, JD Martinez drove in CF Harrison Bader with a RBI single.

In the top of the seventh, 1B Pete Alonso came up with SS Francisco Lindor on third as the tying run with two outs but then grounded out to first.

The Met offense struggled with men on base going 1-8 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, July 22 at the Marlins at 6:40 p.m.
