Mets Rout Yankees 12-2 to Sweep First Subway Series and Reach 500

The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 12-2 tonight at Citi Field to sweep the first round of the Subway Series and improved their record back to .500 at 39-39.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double and then LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk.

J.D. Martinez then hit a RBI single and two batters later, catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fifth, Nimmo led off with another walk and two batters later 1B Pete Alonso walked.

Alvarez followed with a RBI double for his third RBI of the game and then RF Tyrone Taylor walked to load the bases.

3B Mark Vientos followed with a walk to bring in a run and then 2B Jeff McNeil drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

CF Harrison Bader capped off the scoring in the inning with a RBI double.

In the bottom of the sixth, Alonso was hit by a pitch with two outs and Alvarez followed with a single.

Taylor came up next and broke the game open with a three-run homer.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bader led off with a homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, Alonso led off with a single and then pinch-hitter Luis Torrens reached on an infield single.

Two batters later, Vientos drove in Alonso with a RBI single.

LHP Sean Manaea threw five scoreless innings allowing two hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Manaea picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 3.89.

LHP Danny Young followed in the top of the sixth and gave up a two-run homer to CF Aaron Judge and recorded only one out.

RHP Adam Ottavino had to come in and got the last two outs in the inning.

RHP Adrian Houser came in next and closed it out with three scoreless innings in the top of the seventh, eighth and ninth to pick up his first save of the season.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, June 28 at home against the Houston Astros at 7:10 p.m.
