The Met offense did not do much other the bottom of the third after 2B Jeff McNeil walked with one out and two batters later, LF Brandon Nimmo singled.
DH J.D. Martinez followed with a two-run double to bring in the only two runs that they would need.
LHP Sean Manaea had four scoreless innings and then gave up a solo homer to CF Jackson Merrill in the top of the fifth and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was five innings, four hits, one run, one walk and seven strikeouts.
He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 4.11
RHP Adam Ottavino followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.
LHP Jake Diekman came in next and got the last out in the top of the seventh.
RHP Sean Reid-Foley had a 1-2-3 top of the eighth.
RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and gave up a lead-off single to LF Jurickson Profar who then stole second, and then Diaz settled down after that,
Diaz came back to strike out DH Manny Machado, retired 3B Donovan Solano on a ground-out after McNeil made a fine diving spot to get the second out and then Diaz stuck out 2B Jake Croneworth for the last out of the game.
Diaz had much more life on his fastball and improved command on his slider with better downward movement at the bottom of the plate.
He picked up his sixth save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, June 15 at home against the Padres at 4:10 p.m.
