The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 this afternoon to split the two-game London Series and improved their record to 28-36.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings against RHP Taijuan Walker, but then came alive in the top of the sixth.

Catcher Luis Torrens singled with one out and then two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso walked.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI double and then D.H. J.D. Martinez drove in a two-run single to tie the game.

The offense did not do much for the next three innings and then rallied in the top of the ninth.

CF Tyrone Taylor led off with a walk and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a single.

Pinch-hitter Mark Vientos then reached on an infield hit which brought in tying run and Torrens walked to load the bases.

SS Francisco Lindor struck out and then 1B Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch which scored the go-ahead.

Pinch-hitter Julio Iglesias then scored on a passed ball by catcher J.T. Realmuto which brought in a much needed insurance run.

LHP Jose Quintana gave up a run in the bottom of the first after 3B Alec Bohm grounded into a double play

Quintana had scoreless innings in the bottom of the second third and then gave up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI double by SS Eduardo Sosa and a RBI single by LF Whitt Merrifield and was taken out in the middle of the inning.

His final line was 3.2 innings, six hits, three runs, two walks and one strikeout.

LHP Danny Young came in next and got the last out in the bottom of the fifth and the first out in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Dedneil Nunez followed and gave up a solo homer to pinch-hitter David Dahl in the bottom of the seventh and then came out.

LHP Jake Diekmann came in next and got the first two outs in the bottom of the seventh and then walked 1B Bryce Harper and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett came in and got the last out in the bottom of the seventh and had a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

Garrett came back out for the bottom of the ninth and got into trouble after he gave up a lead-off single to CF Cristian Pache and two batters later, hit catcher J.T. Realmuto and then was pulled.

Garrett picked up his sixth win of the season.

RF Drew Smith came on and gave up a single to Harper to load the bases and then gave up a bases loaded walk to Bohm.

Smith was then able to get RF Nick Castellanos to ground into a double play after Torrens made an incredible 2-2-3 double play by stepping on home plate on a grounder right in front of the plate for the second out and then threw out Castellanos at first for the last out.

Smith picked up his second save of the season.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, June 11 at home against the Miami Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
