Mets Lose to Diamondbacks 5-4 After Bullpen Blows Another Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 this afternoon at Citi Field and dropped their record to 24-35.

LHP Jose Quintana got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a two-run homer to 2B Ketel Marte.

Quintana gave up another homer, this time a solo shot to LF Lourdes Guerriel Jr in the top of the second.

Quintana had scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, four hits, three runs, three walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

LHP Danny Young came in next and got the last two outs in the top of the sixth.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

LHP Jake Diekmann came on in the top of the ninth and gave up a lead-off double and later in the inning, another two-run homer to Marte.

The Met offense did all their damage in the bottom of the third after 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI single with two outs and then LF Brandon Nimmo and DH J.D. Martinez followed with RBI triples.

They did not do much the rest of the game and managed only one for the rest of the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, June 3 at the Washington Nationals at 6:45 p.m.
