The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings wasting a based loading opportunity in the top of the third, but then broke through in the top of the fourth.
RF Starling Marte drew a lead-off walk and two batters later, CF Harrison Bader hit a two-run homer.
In the top of the fifth, 1B Pete Alonso and LF Brandon Nimmo singled to lead off the inning and then two batters later, Marte drove in a two-run triple.
3B Mark Vientos followed with a sacrifice fly.
The offense did not do much for the next three innings, but in the top of the ninth, Alonso drove in a much needed insurance run with a solo homer.
LHP David Peterson started out well with four scoreless innings and then in the bottom of the fifth, gave up a single to LF Jesse Winker and later in the inning, a RBI single to CF Jacob Young.
Peterson had a scoreless bottom of the sixth and came back out for the bottom of the seventh and hit Winker to lead off.
Later in the inning, Peterson gave up a one-out single to 1B Joey Gallo and then another hit to Young and was taken out after that.
His final line was 6.2 innings, five hits, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts
He picked up his first win.
RHP Dedniel Nunez came in next and got the last out in the seventh and stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and had a 1-2-3 inning.
RHP Reed Garrett came on in the bottom of the ninth and got into trouble giving up two walks and a RBI single, but was able to recover retiring RF Lane Thomas as the tying run at the plate for the final out of the game.
The Mets next game is Wednesday, June 5 at the Nationals at 4:05 p.m.
