Mets Lose to Rangers 5-3 After Bullpen Struggles To Snap Winning Streak

The New York Mets lost to the Rangers 5-3 tonight at Globe Life Field to snap their seven-game winning streak and dropped their record to 35-38.

LHP Sean Manaea got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first giving up three walks and then hit CF Wyatt Lankford to bring in a run.

Manaea settled down after that retiring the next 14 hitters he faced and then ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth.

Manaea gave up a one-out double to LF Robbie Grossman and then two batters later, a RBI double to DH Josh Smith and was then taken out.

RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next and gave up the game-tying RBI single to Lankford.

In the bottom of the seventh, RHP Drew Smith gave up the game-winning two-run homer to CF Leody Tavares.

In the bottom of the eighth, RHP Adrian Houser threw a scoreless inning.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the top of the fourth after LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and then D.H. J.D. Martinez followed with a walk.

Two batters later, RF Starting Marte drove in the tying run with a RBI double.

In the top of the sixth, Martinez drew another walk with one out and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer for his 16th homer and 42 RBI of the season.

After the sixth, the offense did not do much after that managing only one more hit.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, June 22 at the Chicago Cubs at 2:20 p.m.
