Mets Lose to Marlins 4-2 With Poor Offense and Defense

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 28-37.

RHP Tylor Megill had a scoreless top of the first and then gave up a RBI double to SS Tim Anderson in the top of the second.

Megill had scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth, but then ran into trouble in the top of the fifth.

Megill gave up a lead-off single to Anderson and two batters later, walked CF Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Later in the inning, Megill gave up a RBI double to DH Bryan De La Cruz and later in the inning, Chisholm Jr scored on an error by 3B Mark Vientos.

Megill was taken out with two outs in the inning and his final line was 4.2 innings, four hits, three runs (2 earned runs), two walks and eight strikeouts

LHP Danny Young followed and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the eighth,

RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the top of the ninth and allowed an unearned run after catcher Francisco Alvares made a throwing error which lead to a run scored on a a sacrifice fly by LF Nick Gordon.

The Met offense did not do much outside of a two-run double by 3B Mark Vientos in the bottom of the second.

They had only four hits for the entire game and went 1-4 with runners in scoring position leaving five runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 12 at home against the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
