Mets Beat Padres 5-1 Powered By Two Homers By JD Martinez

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 5-1 at Citi Field this afternoon for their fourth consecutive win and improved their record to 32-37.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings and then came alive in the bottom of the fourth.

SS Francisco Lindor doubled with two outs and then LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI double.

DH J.D. Martinez then delivered a two-run homer to the opposite field in right field.

In the bottom of the seventh, Martinez led off and came through with another opposite field homer, his second of the day and third homer in last three days.

Martinez has been red hot in the last three games with three homers and seven RBIs.

In the bottom of the eighth, 2B Jeff McNeil led off with a single and then three batters later, Nimmo capped off the scoring with an RBI single, his second RBI of the game.

LHP Jose Quintana had a fine outing allowing one run on two hits in six hits on a solo homer by CF Jackson Merrill in the top of the sixth.

He gave up two walks with six strikeouts.

He picked up his second win which was his first win since April 11 and lowered his ERA to 4.98.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed and continued his dominance with two scoreless innings in the top of the seventh and eighth.

Nunez had two strikeouts and no walks or hits and lowered his ERA to 2.04.

RHP Reed Garrett closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, June 16 at home against the Padres at 1:40 p.m.
