RHP Luis Severino had a scoreless top of the first and then gave up a solo homer to 1B Jon Singleton in the top of the second.
Severino had a scoreless top of the third and then gave up two more runs in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by catcher Yainer Diaz and later in the inning, a RBI ground-out by CF Jake Meyers.
Severino allowed another run in the top of the fifth on an infield hit by 2B Jose Altuve.
Severino was able to settle down with scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was seven innings, eight hits, four runs, one walk and three strikeouts.
RHP Adrian Houser followed with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.
RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the top of the tenth and gave up a RBI single to LF Chas McCormick.
RHP Matt Festa made his Met debut in the top of the tenth and got into immediate trouble allowing three straight singles and then gave up a RBI single to Meyers.
Later in the inning, Festa gave up a two-run single to 1B Joey Loperfido and a two-run single to LF Trey Cabbage.
The Met offense was held scoreless for the five innings until CF Brandon Nimmo led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso doubled.
Later in the inning, 3B Mark Vientos drove in Nimmo and Alonso with a two-run double.
In the bottom of the seventh, catcher Luis Torrens led off with a walk and three batters later, Nimmo tied the game with a two-run homer.
Before the bottom of the ninth, there was a 2-hour, 47-minute rain delay and then the offense went down 1-2-3 in the ninth.
In the bottom of the the tenth, Nimmo led off with a RBI double to bring in Lindor for tying run, but then D.H. J.D. Martinez struck out and after Alonso was intentionally walked, Bader grounded out to second and Vientos grounded out to third to ruin their best chance to win the game.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, July 1 at the Washington Nationals at 6:45 p.m.
