Mets Beat Marlins 3-2 On Two-Run Walk-off Homer By J.D. Martinez

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 tonight at Citi Field tonight to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 30-37.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first six innings with one hit, and then came alive in the bottom of the seventh.

LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and then DH J.D. Martinez followed with a double.

1B Pete Alonso then walked to load the bases, but RF Starling Marte grounded into a double play which scored Nimmo as the tying run and then 3B Mark Vientos grounded out to third to end the inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a walk and then stole second.

Nimmo followed with a strikeout, and then Martinez came up next and delivered a two-run walk-off homer to right center for his sixth homer of the year.

RHP Luis Severino had five scoreless innings, including working out of a based loaded jam in the top of the fourth, but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth.

Severino gave up a solo homer to 3B Jake Burger in the top of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, seven hits, one run, three walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith followed in the top of the seventh and gave up a solo homer to CF Jazz Chisholm Jr.

RHP Sean Reid-Foley came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning and picked up his second win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, June 14 at home against the San Diego Padres at 7:10 p.m.
