Mets Sweep Doubleheader Against Phillies Powered By Alvarez

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 11-4 at Citi Field tonight to sweep their doubleheader and improved their record to 74-86.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, SS Francisco Lindor reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the second and then two batters later, 3B Brett Baty singled.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a three-run homer.

In the bottom of the third, CF Rafael Ortega led off with a single and then 2B Ronny Mauricio followed with a RBI double.

1B Pete Alonso and Lindor were then hit by pitches to load the bases and then three batters later, Alvarez came up and broke the game open with a grand slam.

In the bottom of the fourth, Mauricio singled with one out and two batters later, Lindor hit a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fifth, LF Tim Locastro hit a RBI single.

LHP Jose Quintana started out well with three scoreless innings, but gave up four runs in the top of the fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, seven hits, four runs, 0 walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Phil Bickford followed with a scoreless top of the fifth.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next and threw three scoreless innings in the top of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

Garrett picked up his first win.

RHP Drew Smith closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets last regular season is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, October 1 at home against the Phillies at 3:10 p.m.
