The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 4-2 tonight at Citi Field to split the day-night doubleheader and dropped their record to 72-86.
RHP Kodai Senga got off to a rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to CF Jon Berdi, but settled down after that.
Senga had scoreless innings in the top of the second and third innings, but gave up a solo homer to RF Jesus Sanchez in the top of the fourth.
Senga had a scoreless top of the fifth, and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was five innings, three hits, two runs, three walks and eight strikeouts.
Senga finished up his rookie season in special fashion after he picked up his 200th strikeout on the season in the top of the third.
He is the first Mets rookie pitcher to have 200 strikeouts in a season since Dwight Gooden in 1984 and the fourth Japanese pitcher to have 200 strikeouts in a season with Yu Darvish, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Hideo Nomo.
LHP Anthony Kay followed with a scoreless top of the sixth.
RHP Phil Bickford threw a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Brook Raleu threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Adam Ottavino came on in the top of the ninth and loaded the bases and then 3B Brett Baty made an error which allowed the go-ahead run to score.
Ottavino then gave up a RBI single to LF Bryan De La Cruz.
The Met offense did not do much tonight managing only six hits outside of two solo homers by SS Francisco Lindor.
Lindor made history of his own after he reached the special milestone of 30 homers and 30 stolen bases in a season with 30 doubles.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, September 28 at home against the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
