Mets Beat Phillies 4-3 Behind Megill in First Game of Doubleheader

 The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 this afternoon at Citi Field in the first game of a doubleheader and improved their record to 73-86.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Rafael Ortega and 3B Ronny Maurico singled and then 1B Pete Alonso drove in Ortega with a RBI ground-out. 

SS Francisco Lindor then followed with a single and two batters later, DH Brett Baty drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

Later in the inning, Lindor scored on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the second, catcher Omar Narvaez hit a solo homer.

RHP Tylor Megill had an outstanding start throwing seven scoreless innings and started the top of the eighth, but gave up to back-to-back hits and recorded one out and was then taken out.

His final line was 7.1 innings, four hits, one run, two walks and seven strikeouts.

He finished up with nine wins and an ERA of 4.70.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and got the last two outs in the inning.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed in the top of the ninth and gave up two runs, but was able to close it out and pick up his 12th save.

The Mets have another game tonight against the Phillies.
