Mets Beat Reds 8-4 Led By Vientos and Vogelbach

The New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-4 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 69-80.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third after LF Tim Locastro led off with a single and then CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a single to advance Locastro to third.

Locastro then scored on a wild pitch and then catcher Francisco Alvarez came through with a two-run double.

In the bottom of the fifth, DH Mark Vientos came through with a RBI single.

In the bottom of the seventh, pinch-hitter Daniel Vogelbach broke the game open with a based clearing double and then later in the inning 2B Ronny Mauricio came through with a RBI single/

LHP Jose Quintana had another solid start allowing two runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings.

Quintana gave up one walk with two strikeouts.

He picked up his third win.

RHP Drew Smith followed and got the last out in the top of the seventh.

RHP Jeff Brigham gave up a two-run homer to 1B Christian Encarncion-Strand in the top of the eighth.

LHP Brooks Raley closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, September 18 at the Miami Marlins at 6:40 p.m.
