The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 11-2 this afternoon at Citi Field in the first game of a doubleheader and improved their record to 72-85.
The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer.
After a scoreless bottom of the second, SS Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer of his own in the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the sixth, DH Mark Vientos also hit a two-run homer.
In the bottom of the seventh, Lindor capped off his stellar day at the plate with a two-run single.
Later in the inning, 2B Jeff McNeil reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.
In the bottom of the eighth, CF Brandon Nimmo broke the game open with a two-run double.
LHP Joey Lucchesi had a solid start allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings.
Lucchesi gave up two walks with three strikeouts.
He picked up his fourth win.
RHP Trevor Gott followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Grant Hartwig closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.
The Mets next game is tonight in Game 2 of the doubleheader at 7:35 p.m.
