The New York Mets beat the Seattle Mariners 6-3 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 63-74.
The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor reached on an error with one out and then two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso hit a RBI single.
In the bottom of the second 2B Ronny Mauricio singled with one out and later in the inning stole second.
Catcher Francisco Alvarez then drove in Mauricio with a RBI single.
In the bottom of the third, LF Jeff McNeil singled and then Alonso followed with a two-run homer.
After a scoreless bottom of the fourth, McNeil led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer of his own.
In the bottom of the sixth, Alonso capped off his stellar day at the plate with his second homer, this time a solo shot for his 100th RBI of the season.
It's his third 40 homer season in his first five seasons as well as his third 100-RBI season.
RHP Tylor Megill started out well with three scoreless innings, but gave up back-to-back homers to DH Dominic Canzone and 1B Mike Ford in the top of the fourth.
Megill was able to get out of the top of the fifth with a double play and then got the first out in the top of the sixth was then taken out.
His final line was 5.1 innings, five hits, three runs, two walks and six strikeouts.
He picked up his fifth win.
LHP Brooks Raley followed and did a fine job with 1.2 scoreless innings.
RHP Trevor Gott came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his eighth save.
The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, September 5 at the Washington Nationals at 7:05 p.m.
