Mets Lose to Reds 3-2 After Offense Struggles

 The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 68-80.

RHP Tylor Megill had a scoreless top of the first, but gave up an unearned run in the top of the second after catcher Francisco Alvarez made a throwing error.

Megill had a scoreless top of the third, but in the top of the fourth walked 1B Joey Votto and then gave up a two-run homer to 3B Christian Encarnciaon-Strand.

Megill had a scoreless top of the fifth and was taken out with two outs in the top of the sixth.

His final line was 5.2 innings, nine hits, three runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Trevor Gott threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the first, 3B Ronny Maurico hit a RBI single to bring in catcher Francisco Alvarez.

In the bottom of the fourth, LF Tim Locastro doubled with two outs and then Alvarez followed with a RBI double.

The Met offense did not score after that and wasted scoring opportunities.

They went 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, September 18 at home against the Reds at 1:40 p.m.
