The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-1 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 67-78.

The Met offense got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor doubled and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI single.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, 2B Jeff McNeil singled with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and then CF Rafael Ortega followed with a RBI single to score McNeil from first.

In the bottom of the fifth, 3B Brett Baty led off with a single and then three batters later Lindor walked.

Alonso came up next and delivered with a two-run double for his second and third RBI of the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ortega led off with a walk and then DH Mark Vientos followed with a two-run homer to break the game open.

Baty followed with a single and two batters later LF Brandon Nimmo singled.

Lindor then singled and Alonso came up and grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run after Baty scored due to a fielding error by LHP Andrew Saalfrank.

LHP Joey Lucchesi had a strong start allowing one run on five hits in seven innings.

Lucchesi had three strikeouts with two walks.

He had sharp command of his curveball and mixed in his fastball well.

RHP Drew Smith closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.
