Mets Lose to Marlins 4-3 On Walk-off By Burger

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 4-3 tonight at loanDepot Park in Miami, Florida to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 70-81.

LHP Joey Lucchesi started out well with two scoreless innings, but in the bottom of the third gave back-to-back doubles to 1B Josh Bell and DH Jorge Soler.

Lucchesi had a scoreless bottom of the fourth, but gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth after his throwing error led to a run.

Lucchesi gave up a RBI single to SS Garrett Hampson in the bottom of the sixth and was then taken out.

Lucchesi's final line was 5.2 innings, six hits, three runs, two walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with 2.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Trevor Gott came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a walk-off RBI single to 3B Jake Burger.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the top of the third after SS Francisco Lindor reached on an infield hit and 1B Pete Alonso scored on a throwing error by LHP Braxton Garrett.

The Met bats wasted scoring opportunities in the next five innings until CF Brandon Nimmo hit a game-tying two-run double in the top of the ninth.

Overall, they went 4-13 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 20 at the Marlins at 6:40 p.m.
