Two batters later, RF Starling Marte came through with a RBI single.

SS Francisco Lindor followed and broke the game open with a three-run homer.

After scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth, LF Tommy Pham doubled to lead off the top of the sixth and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI double.

In the top of the ninth, Baty singled to lead off the inning and then three batters later, Marte singled.

RHP Max Scherzer rebounded after two prior rough outings with a brilliant performance allowing one run on four innings in eight innings on a solo homer by catcher Yanier Diaz in the bottom of the seventh.

Scherzer had one walk with eight strikeouts.

He had pinpoint command of his fastball, change-up and especially his slider which resulted in a lot of swings and misses.
