RHP Justin Verlander got off to a rocky start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to RF George Springer, but settled down after that.
Verlander was cruising until the top of the sixth and got into a based loaded jam but came back to strike out LF Daulton Varsho to end the inning and was then taken out due to a high pitch count of 117 pitches.
His final line was six innings, five hits, one run, three hits and eight strikeouts.
RHP Dominic Leone came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Drew Smith followed and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Jeff Brigham came on in the top of the ninth and gave up a two-run homer to Varsho.
The Met offense struggled all night against former Met RHP Chris Bassitt and wasted their only scoring opportunity in the bottom of the third.
LF Mark Canha led off with a single and then stole second.
Catcher Francisco Alvarez then reached on an error by 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr, but then CF Brandon Nimmo popped up on the first pitch he saw and then SS Francisco Lindor struck out and 2B Jeff McNeil popped out to end the threat.
The bats did not do much after that and went 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left five runners on base.
The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, June 3 at home against the Blue Jays at 4:10 p.m.
