The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 7-5 tonight at SunTruist Park for their fifth consecutive loss and dropped their record to 30-32.
RHP Max Scherzer started out well with one one in the first four innings, but in the bottom of the fifth, it started to unravel after he gave up a two-run homer to catcher Sean Murphy.
Scherzer had more trouble in the bottom of the sixth after he gave up a RBI double to CF Michael Harris II and a RBI single to CF Ronald Acuna Jr and was then taken out.
Scherzer's final line was 5.2 innings, 11 hits, five runs, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts.
LHP Brooks Raley came in next and threw a scoreless inning.
Raley stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and gave a one-out double to DH Marcell Ozuna and was then taken out.
RHP Adam Ottavino followed and gave up a two-run homer to Harris.
The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after 3B Brett Baty hit a RBI single.
In the top of the second, catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a solo homer.
In the top of the fifth, SS Francisco Lindor doubled with two outs and then DH Tommy Pham followed with a two-run homer.
In the top of the seventh, CF Brandon Nimmo walked with one out and then 2B Jeff McNeil singled and Lindor walked to load the bases.
Pham came up next and hit a deep sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game, but Acuna made an outstanding job which prevented multiple runs from scoring.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, June 8 at the Braves at 7:20 p.m.
