Mets Lose to Brewers 3-2 And Fail To Get Timely Hit

The New York Mets lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 tonight at Citi Field to lose three out of four games in the series and dropped their record to 36-45.

RHP Max Scherzer started out well with five scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth after he gave up a lead-off infield single to 1B Rowdy Tellez and two batters later, a two-run homer to catcher Victor Caratini and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, seven hits, two runs, two walks and nine strikeouts.

LHP T.J. McFarland came in next and gave up an infield hit and a walk and was then taken out.

RHP Dominic Leone followed and gave up an infield hit to pinch-hitter Owen Wilson and then a sacrifice fly to 3B Brian Anderson.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP David Robertson threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third, 3B Brett Baty and CF Brandon Nimmo hit back-to-back homers.

In the bottom of the seventh, they had a golden scoring opportunity after DH Mark Canha singled, pinch-hitter Danny Mendick reached on an error and then Nimmo was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out.

RF Starling Marte came up next and had a chance to deliver, but grounded into a double play.

In the bottom of the ninth, Canha walked with one out and then catcher Francisco Alvarez singled.

Two batters later, Nimmo walked to load the bases with two outs.

Marte followed and had a chance to tie or win the game, but struck out to end it.

The Met offense struggled all night with men on base and was 0-4 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday. June 30 at home against the San Francisco Giants at 7:10 p.m.
