The New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 4-3 in 10 innings tonight at Citi Field to split the two-game series and improved their record to 32-36.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings against RHP Gerritt Cole until the bottom of the fifth after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double and then three batters later LF Tommy Pham drove in the first run of the game with a RBI double.

In the bottom of the seventh, catcher Francisco Alvarez led off with a single and then two batters later Pham singled.

Two batters later, DH Mark Vientos walked to load the bases and then CF Brandon Nimmo was hit by a pitch which brought in a run.

RF Starling Marte then hit a RBI single to tie the game, but Nimmo was thrown out at second which ended the inning.

In the bottom of the tenth, Nimmo came up with one out and made up for his baserunning error with a walk-off double to bring in 3B Eduardo Escobar who started out the inning on second base as the ghost runner.

RHP Justin Verlander cruised through the first five innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth after he gave up a RBI double to catcher Jose Trevinos and then a RBI double to RF Jake Bauers.

Verlander was taken out after the inning and his final line was six innings, three hits, one run, 0 walks and six strikeouts.

He had much better command of his slider and curveball which helped him hitters off balanced.

RHP Jeff Brigham came in next in the top of the seventh and was let down by his defense after 2B Jeff McNeil made a throwing error which allowed DH Josh Donaldson to score.

Brigham was taken out for LHP Brooks Raley.

Raley then inexcusably allowed CF Isiah Kiner-Falefa to steal home which brought in another run.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP David Robertson threw a scoreless top of the ninh.

RHP Dominic Leone threw a scoreless top of the tenth and picked up his first win.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Friday, June 16 at home against the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:10 p.m.
