Mets Lose To Cardinals 5-3 And Struggle with RISP

 The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 33-37.

RHP Kodai Senga worked out of a based loaded jam in the top of the first, but ran into trouble in the top of the second.

Senga gave up a one-out to CF Tommy Edman and two batters later a RBI single to RF Brendan Donovan.

Senga then gave up a two-run homer to 1B Paul Goldschmidt.

Senga gave up a solo homer to LF Jordan Walker in the top of the third.

Senga settled down after that and threw scoreless innings in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth and was taken out with two outs in the top of the seventh.

His final line was 6.2 innings, five hits, four runs, one walk and eight strikeouts.

RHP Jeff Brigham came in next and got the last out in the top of the seventh.

Brigham stayed in for the top of the eighth and got the first two outs and was taken out.

LHP Brooks Raley followed and got the last out in the top of the eighth.

Raley came back for the top of the ninth and gave up a lead-off single to Edman who then stole second and two batters later, gave up a RBI single to pinch-hitter Dylan Carlson.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a solo homer.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third and fourth, DH Daniel Vogelbach led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and two batters later SS Luis Guillorme hit a two-run homer

The bats did not do much for the rest of the game and wasted several scoring opportunities.

They went 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, June 18 at home against the Cardinals at 1:40 p.m.
