The New York Mets lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 this afternoon at Citi Field to be swept in their three-game series and dropped their record back to .500 at 30-30.
RHP Kodai Senga started out with a scoreless top of the first, but ran into trouble in the top of the second after he walked 3B Matt Chapman and then gave up a single to CF Daulton Varsho and a two-run double to the next hitter LF Whit Merrifield.
Senga's struggles continued in the top of the third after he gave up a one-out solo home to DH Vladimir Guerrero Jr and then a double to Chapman.
Senga was then hurt by his defense after catcher Francisco Alvarez made a poor throw on a pick-off attempt that went into centerfield which allowed Chapman to score.
Senga was taken out later in the inning.
His final line was four hits, four runs (three earned runs), five walks and three strikeouts.
RHP Stephen Nogosek came in next and threw three scoreless innings.
RHP Dominic Leone followed and gave up a one-out single to Guerrero Jr in the top of the seventh and then a two-run homer to 1B Brandon Belt.
RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the eighth.
RHP Jeff Brigham threw a scoreless top of the ninth.
The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third after CF Tommy Pham hit a solo homer.
In the bottom of the fifth, Pham came through once again with his second solo homer of the game.
In the bottom of the sixth, 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer and two batters later RF Starling Marte hit a solo homer which tied the game.
The bats did not do much after that and went 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left three runners on base.
The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, June 6 at the Atlanta Braves at 7:20 p.m.
