Mets Lose to Giants 5-4 And Split Series

The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 5-4 tonight at Oracle Park to split their four-game series and dropped their record to 14-9.

RHP Tylor Megill got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off single to 1B Lamonte Wade Jr and then walked RF Michael Conforto.

Later in the inning, Megill gave up a RBI single to DH Joc Pederson.

Megill's struggles continued in the bottom of the second after he gave up a lead-off homer to 2B Thairo Estrada.

After a scoreless bottom of the third, Megill had more troubles in the bottom of the fourth after he gave up a couple of singles and then a RBI single to catcher Blake Sabol and then a RBI ground-out to CF Brett Wisely. 

Megill was taken out after the inning and his final line was four innings, six hits, four runs one walk and two strikeouts.

RHP Jeff Brigham followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Drew Smith came on in the bottom and got into trouble after he walked Pederson and then gave up a RBI double to LF Mike Yastrzemski

The offense did not do much for the first couple of innings, but in the top of the third, RF Starling Marte singled with two outs and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI double.

In the top of the fourth, LF Jeff McNeil led off with an infield hit and DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a walk.

3B Brett Baty then singled to load the bases and then pinch-hitter Mark Canha drove in McNeil with a sacrifice fly.

CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the sixth, catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a solo homer his first of the year.

The bats did not do much for the rest of the game and did not have any more hits.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action back at home at Citi Field on Tuesday, April 25 against the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
