The New York Mets beat the Oakland Athletics 3-2 this afternoon at the Oakland Coliseum for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 9-6.

The bats got off a slow start in the first three innings wasting a couple of scoring opportunities in the top of first and third.

In the top of the fourth, 1B Pete Alonso came through with a solo homer for his seventh homer of the season.

The offense did not do much in the next two innings, but came alive in the top of the seventh.

LF Mark Canha started the inning off with a solo homer and then DH Daniel Vogelbach followed with a walk and then was then taken out for pinch runner Tim Locastro.

Locastro stole second and later in the inning with two outs, CF Brandon Nimmo delivered with a game-winning RBI double.

RHP Carlos Carrasco started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the second after he gave up a RBI ground-out to LF Connor Capel and later in the inning a RBI single to SS Esteury Ruiz.

Carrasco settled down after that with a 1-2-3 bottom of third and worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth.

He had another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fifth and hit Diaz to lead off the bottom of the sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was 5 innings, four hits, two runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

RHP Drew Smith came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

Smith came back for the bottom of the seventh and hit Ruiz with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

LHP Brooks Raley followed and got the last two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino then came in and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP David Robertson closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth and picked up his third save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, April 16th at the Athletics at 4:07 p.m.
