The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 this afternoon at Dodger Stadium to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 12-7.

The offense did not do much for the first four innings against former Met RHP Noah Syndergarrd, but came alive in the top of the fifth.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez reached on an infield single with one out and two batters CF Brandon Nimmo continued his excellent start to the season with a two-run homer.

The bats were held scoreless for the next two innings, but tn the top of the eighth, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a single.

Two batters later, pinch-hitter Tommy Pham came through with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the ninth, 2B Luis Guiillorme walked with one out and then Nimmo followed with a single.

Canha came up next and delivered a two-run double.

RHP Max Scherzer worked his way out of a based loaded jam in the bottom of the first and started out with three scoreless innings.

In a controversial move, Scherzer was thrown out of the game before the bottom of the fourth after a substance check by umpires Phil Cuzzi and Dan Bellino. Scherzer could be facing a 10-game suspension from the ejection pending appeal.

RHP Jimmy Yacabonis had to come in next and did a fine job allowing one run on two hits in 2.2 innings. He picked up his first win.

RHP Jeff Brigham came in next with the based loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth and retired 2B Miguel Vargas to end the inning.

RHP Drew Smith followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP David Robertson gave up a RBI double to J.D. Martinez in the bottom of the eighth, but came back to retire RF Jason Heyward and Vargas to end the inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, RHP Adam Ottavino gave a solo homer to LF David Peralta, but did not any more runs in the inning and picked up his third save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, April 20th at the San Francisco Giants at 9:40 p.m.
