The New York Mets beat the Oakland Athletics 4-3 this afternoon at the Oakland Coliseum to sweep the three-game series and improved their record to 10-6.
After a scoreless top of the first, LF Tommy Pham drove in the first run of the game with a solo homer in the top of the second.
The bats did not do much for the next few innings until the top of the sixth after SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer.
In the top of the ninth, 1B Pete Alonso hit a mammoth game-tying solo homer that went 430 feet to center field for his league-leading eight homer of the season. His homer also tied him with Dave Kingman for fifth most all-time in Mets history.
In the top of the tenth, RF Starling Marte walked with two outs and then stole second.
Lindor then followed with a walk and then 3B Eduardo Escobar scored on a wild pitch by reliever RHP Zach Jackson after Escobar started the inning at second base as the automatic runner.
RHP Jose Butto made his first start of the season and started out well with four scoreless innings.
Butto ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth after he gave up a lead-off single to SS Kevin Smith who then stole second.
Butto then gave up a RBI single to the following hitter CF Esteury Ruiz and then Butto came out after the inning.
His final line was five innings, one run, four walks and two strikeouts.
RHP Denyl Reyes followed with two dominating innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.
RHP John Curtiss came on in the bottom of the eighth and got into trouble after he walked 3B Jace Peterson and then gave up a single to 2B Aledyms Diaz.
Curtiss then gave up a two-run double to catcher Shea Langeliers, but was able to recover after that and keep his team in the game only down 3-2.
RHP Jimmy Yacabonis made his Met debut in the bottom of the tenth and struggled out of the game with his command walking the lead-off hitter and then gave up a single.
Yacabonis was able to settle down after that striking out RF Ramon Laureano and was helped out by his defense after CF Brandon Nimmo made a stellar diving catch to keep the game tied and then Yacabonis was able to get the last out in the inning and picked up his first win.
RHP David Robertson came on in the bottom of the tenth and after a lead-off hit by pitch, he retired the next three hitters he faced and picked up his fourth save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, April 17 at the Los Angeles Dodgers at 10:10 p.m.
