The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 5-0 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 6-5.
The offense did not do much for the first two innings against RHP Yu Darvish, but in the bottom of third, CF Brandon Nimmo singled and stole second with two outs.
SS Francisco Lindor was then by a pitch and RF Jeff McNeil followed with a two-run double.
The bats were quiet for the next four innings until the bottom of the seventh after LF Mark Canha led off with a double and then 2B Luis Guillorme followed by reaching on a bunt single.
3B Eduardo Escobar then drove in Canha with a sacrifice fly.
Catcher Tomas Nido reached on an infield single and two batters later, Lindor broke the game open with a two-run double.
RHP Max Scherzer responded after a rough outing at the Milwaukee Brewers last time out with a much better start in this game.
Scherzer threw five scoreless innings allowing one hits and three walks with six strikeouts and picked up his second win.
He did not have the best command of his fastball but he was able to make up for it with command of his slider and curveball.
His offspeed pitches helped him keep the hitters off balanced and maintain his shutout.
RHP John Curtiss followed with a scoreless top of the sixth.
RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP David Robertson threw a 1-2-3 top of the eighth with two outs.
RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, April 11 at home against the Padres at 7:10 p.m.
