Mets Beat Marlins 9-3 In Home Opener Powered by Alonso and Lindor

 The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 9-3 at Citi Field in their home opener this afternoon to snap their three-game losing streak and improved their record to 4-4.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third, CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and then RF Starling Marte and SS Francisco Lindor followed with walks to load the bases.

1B Pete Alonso and 2B Jeff McNeil then struck out, but LF Mark Canha walked to bring in the first run of the game.

DH Daniel Vogelbach then reached on an infield hit which brought home second run of the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, catcher Tomas Nido led off with a single and then Nimmo followed with a walk.

Three batters later, Alonso came through with a RBI single.

After a scoreless bottom of the fifth, Marte hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh, 2B Jeff McNeil led off with a walk and then Canha was hit by a pitch.

Pinch hitter Tommy Pham followed with a walk to load the bases.

3B Eduardo Escobar then grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home  a run and Nido grounded into a double play which brought home another run in the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Nimmo led off with a walk and then two batters later, Lindor broke the game open with a two-run homer.

Alonso came up next and capped off the scoring with a solo homer.

RHP Tylor Megill had a stellar start with six scoreless innings. Megill allowed three hits and two walks with three strikeouts. He attacked the zone and had command of all of his pitches. Megill picked up his second win and lowered his ERA to 1.64.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Dennis Santana came in next in the top of the eighth and quickly retired the first two hitters he faced, but then walked the next two hitters he faced and then gave up a three-run homer to 1B Garrett Cooper and was taken out.

LHP Brooks Raley came in next and gave up a single to CF to Jazz Chisholm Jr, but then retired RF Avasil Garcia on a ground-out to end the inning.

RHP Denyl Reyes followde and closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday April 7 at home against the Marlins at 4:10 p.m.
