The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 10-0 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 52-31.

The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but came through in the bottom of the third after DH J.D. Davis led off with a double and two batters later CF Brandon Nimmo drove in Davis with a RBI double.

RF Starling Marte then grounded out, but SS Francisco Lindor reached on an infield single and SS Miguel Rojas made a throw error which allowed Nimmo to score and Lindor to advance to second.

In the following inning, LF Mark Canha reached on an infield hit with one out and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a single.

Davis then hit a RBI single and catcher James McCann came up next and finally delivered after a long slump with a towering three-run homer to help break the game open.

In the bottom of the fifth, 3B Eduardo Escobar reached first with one out after 2B Joey Wendle made a throwing error and then Canha singled and McNeil walked to load bases.

Davis came up next and capped off his night with his first career grand slam and had five RBIs for the game. He needed to have this type of performance due to all of the struggles he has had to this point at the plate and hopefully that will get him going on a hot streak and earn him more playing time.

RHP Trevor Williams had an outstanding start with seven scoreless innings allowing two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Williams had excellent command of his fastball and slider and mixed in all his pitches well.

He was efficient and worked quickly which helped him go seven innings and give the bullpen a much needed rest.

Williams picked up his second win and lowered his ERA to 3.76.

RHP Jake Reed closed it out with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday July 8th at home against the Marlins at 7:10 p.m.
