Mets Beat Rangers 4-1 Powered By Escobar and Marte

The New York Mets beat the Texas Rangers 4-1 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 49-30.

The offense got on the board early once again in the bottom of the first after RF Starling Marte hit a solo homer, his second consecutive game with a solo homer in the bottom of the first.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, 1B Pete Alonso led off the bottom of the fourth and struck out, but reached second on a throwing error by catcher Jonah Heim and then LF Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI double.

3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a two-run homer and continued his stellar series with a homer in three consecutive games and now has nine homers.

RHP Carlos Carrasco started out well with two scoreless innings, but gave up a solo homer to Heim in the top of the third.

Carrasco settled down after that with a strong start allowing one run on six hits in 5.2 innings. Carrasco gave up one walk with eight strikeouts to pick up his ninth win and lowered his ERA to 4.64.

LHP Joely Rodriguez followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his 18th save.

 The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday July 4th at the Cincinnati Reds at 6:40 p.m.
