Mets Beats Braves 8-3 To Take Series Powered By Four Homers

 The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 8-3 this afternoon at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 55-34.

After a scoreless top of the first, 3B Eduardo Escobar hit a solo homer in the top of the second.

In the top of the third, catcher Tomas Nido led off with a single and then CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk.

SS Francisco Lindor came up next and broke the game open with a three-run homer.

After scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth, LF Mark Canha delivered in the top of the sixth with a solo homer.

In the top of the seventh, Nimmo led off with a walk and then Lindor reached on an error by 1B Matt Olsen.

1B Pete Alonso struck out, and then 2B Luis Gullorme came through with an RBI double.

Canha followed and struck out looking and then Lindor scored on a balk by reliever RHP Jesse Chavez.

RHP Chris Bassitt cruised through the first five innings, but in the bottom of the sixth he gave up a solo homer to Olsen and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, five hits, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.

Bassitt had good command of his fastball and curveball and attacked the zone.

He picked up his seventh win and lowered his ERA to 3.79.

RHP Drew Smith followed and had a scoreless bottom of the seventh, but gave up a solo homer to 3B Austin Riley in the bottom of the eighth.

Smith gave up one run on two hits with  five strikeouts in two innings of work.

RHP Tommy Hunter came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a lead-off homer to DH Eddie Rosario and then came back to retire the next three hitters he faced to close out the game.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday July 14th at the Chicago Cubs at 8:05 p.m.
