The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 1-0 tonight at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 50-31.

RHP Max Scherzer made his return after being on the injured list (IL) for the last 49 days due to an oblique injury and was spectacular.

Scherzer threw six scoreless innings allowing two hits and no walks with 11 strikeouts. He was in complete control and had pinpoint control of all his pitches. Scherzer showed off his whole repertoire with a blazing fastball, knee buckling curve and sharp slider.

Now that's healthy he brings a winning presence to the top of the rotation and showed tonight why he is one of the best pitchers in baseball. It's a shame he was not able to get any run support since he deserved to get a win for his performance.

LHP Joely Rodriguez followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Tommy Hunter then threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Seth Lugo came on in the bottom of the ninth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up a lead-off double to LF Tommy Pham and then intentionally walked RF Tyler Naquin.

Lugo then walked DH Donovan Solano to load the bases and then gave up a walk-off sacrifice fly to 1B Mike Moustakis.

The offense struggled all night especially with runners in scoring position and wasn't able to get timely hits.

They had six hits and went 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday July 6th at the Reds in the final game of the series at 6:40 p.m.
