The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 5-4 in 10 innings this afternoon at Citi Field and improved their record to 53-32.

The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth after 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth, catcher Tomas Nido led off and reached on an infield single and three batters later, SS Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer.

The bats did not much for the next two innings until the bottom of the tenth after catcher Tomas Nido hit a RBI double with two outs to tie the game and bring home LF Mark Canha who started out at second base as the ghost runner.

CF Brandon Nimmo came up next and reached on base on a throwing error by LHP Tanner Scott which allowed Nido to come in and score the winning run.

RHP Carlos Carrasco started out well with five scoreless innings working his way out of jam, but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth.

Carrassco gave up a one-out single to 1B Jesus Aguilar and then walked CF Jesus Sanchez and then gave up a single to RF Avisail Garcia to load the bases.

Carrasco then gave up a RBI double to 3B Brian Anderson, but 2B Luis Guillorme made a perfect relay throw to retire Sanchez out at home and Carrasco was then taken out.

RHP Seth Lugo came in next and got into immediate trouble after he threw a wild pitch which helped bring in another run in the inning.

Lugo was able to get the last out in the top of the sixth and got the first two outs in the top of the seventh and then gave up a single to 2B Jon Berti and was taken out.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and retired DH Garrett Cooper on a ground-out to end the inning.

Ottavino stayed in for the top of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to 1B Jesus Aguilar to tie the game and then retired the next three batters he faced to keep the game tied.

RHP Edwin Diaz followed in the top of the ninth and had a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.

RHP Colin Holderman came on in the top of the tenth and gave up an infield hit to Berti but then SS Francisco Lindor made a throwing error and 3B Eduardo Escobar was unable to cover bag in time which allowed the run to score.

Holderman gave up a run in the top of the tenth and picked up his fourth win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday July 10th at home against the Marlins at 1:40 p.m.
